You obviously aren't buying much rubber for the end of your dick glenn, so you may as well get some nice rubber for the wife's car!

on my merc cruiser im not fussed about mega branded tyres tbh as i dont thrash it about but on the orion it has toyo t1rs and will be replacing with good tyres when they wear down as i give it some stick when im out in it

i guess like someone said,to people who arent into cars that much a tyre is just a tyre

SUNNY SN600, OMG - came fitted to the back of a small low power hatchback I bought last year. Both me and the missus spun out on roundabouts at normal traffic speed. Had to drive so slowly in the wet that you became a hindrance. Can't believe these tyres are still being sold, just dangerous really. Fitted some T1r's for a great price and the difference is like night and day.

So because winter is coming, with worse weather, you aren't going to buy some decent tyres? Makes sense I suppose..

Surprised insurance companies dont have anything to say about moving away from the brand the car left the factory with. How come its not classed as a modification?

I did a track session in my old 330bhp Audi S4 bi-turbo running 2x Avon front tyres and 2x Wanli rear tyres on the back, nice hot day and was still spinning up out the corners!

They were comedy in the wet, could get a cracking power slide on and a sharp launch off the lights had the back stepping out

Some people might not have Ł500 plus to go get a full set of new tyres perhaps?????

By that you mean lives aren't worth Ł500?

You can get reasonable rubber for Ł200-300 a set, not a huge outlay considering the benefits gained.

I use Bridgestone re070 on my impreza only about Ł125 each and they are superb wouldn't put cheap tyres on it for performance use, but come winter I have some budget winter tyres and they outperform the Bridgestone in winter but then I aren't driving hard in ice or snow.

What is insane is that winter tyres ARE considered a modification.

(Mine will be going on both cars this weekend, but I do have a full set of 5 winter wheels for each, so it's an easy job for the mobile tyre man!)

I work in a tyre and exhaust center and what really shocks me is the state of the tyres people are willing to drive on. I once almost got the sack for giving a customer hell because he came in with a corsa and it had 2 car seats in it with all 4 tyres showing the cords but the 2 fronts were total slicks.
I see this day in and day out but i cant say a word to these people because its NOT MY PLACE to tell them and the local plod must not give a flying fuck about the state of cars out there now. Yes money is tight but why scrimp on tyres when that's the last thing to leave the road when you loose it on a bend.
If it was up to me i would slap every one that comes in with car seats and bald tyres because someone needs to look out for there kids future...........

Sod that, they're responsible for their own gene pool (Darwin awards and all that) but what about the other innocent people on the road that they'll hit?

steve123 sound as equally shit as the double star's my mot man threw on my focus 2 years ago can get it sideways in the dry, in the wet they lose grip so far before the fronts with light throttle you can maintain a slide indefinitely, worst of it even after 2 years and 6 months and 12k miles later they are showing no sign of wear

I'm rolling with a set of 4 hifly's on a meriva vxr, grip is fine in dry of wet, not tried snow yet.

Got some barums on my corsa turbo, they grip surprisingly well but squeal like pigs when giving it WOT in 3rd in the dry.

M3s were RWD though. the standard Sapphire tyres are fine unless you go for a lot more power than standard.

And im going to waste nearly Ł5/600 on tyres when there is like 8mm tread on budget tyres on a 4wd car and perfectly legal...... hmmm treat my son to a nice xmas, pay my bills, and have a good time or waste money to replace tyres that have at the mo a lot of life in them...... Aye right, i for one dont drive like a muppet to require decent brand tyres at this time, it will however get decent brand ones once those are worn out for a nicer drive.

Money is not wasted on decent tyres they may save your life in an emergency. You dont have to drive like a muppet to find out the hard way what cheap tyres can do even with full tread. It maybe your sons safety you are putting on the line however carefull you think you drive its the other guy stopping in front on decent tyres in the wet that will find the flaw in your arguement.

I am agreeing with "foreigneRS" well my view is want good grip, going fast is nice but stopping is Fu**ing essential! especially with my family in the car! Several of my fiends asked me why I a prepaired to go overdrawn to buy my tyres for the BMW -> because I ferry my daughter around in it to London (400 odd mile motorway trip) then there is the school run, with "local child" (TM) who cycles out in front of you without looking, and crosses those double white lines etc again without looking. Yes I might make them last to payday but, its a bad risk! Again also asked why I spent that much on a nice set of Michelin pilots!

Also I agree that you need to up rate the brakes and the suspension / tyres before you make your car go faster!

Am I alone thinking that if I let my daughter get hurt through my stupidity of not making sure the car she was in would not skid into an accident when the brakes are used in anger, not only would I have to live with it but my wife would kill me?

I also make sure I have decent tyres on my car. My Mondeo is hardly a performance car but I still want to know when I'm doing my usual commute up and down the M4 in the rain that when I hit the brakes it will stop as fast as it possibly can!

I won't discount midrange tyres, but I refuse to fit budgets totally!
I always look at reviews online before I pick a tyre.

Saying that, I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 2's and Goodyear EfficientGrips to my Mondeo in the last year based on reviews and they were both absolutley terrible and cause major vibrations! One of my Eagle F1's is like a 50p coin!

I have ContiSportContact 3's on the front of my Mondeo now and they are a cracking tyre!

I recently replaced the nackered 155/80 R13 Budgets fitted onto my Mothers Fiat Panda with some 165/70 R13 Maragonis and even my Mother said it's totally transformed the way the car drives and handles.

Many years ago when Goodyear F1's first came out a friend had them on his Cossie.

Now he was doing some donuts and mucking about. But less then 300 miles old and the tread peeled off both of them as if they were remoulds.

I would never ever put a Goodyear F1 near any car I own.

Ive had remoulds last up better than they did !!

Just now my fave is Parada Spec 2s or similar up front, and Chinese budgets on the rear.... got 3 RWD cars like that
Still get good braking, reduce understeer, and not so expensive when I make the frequent trips to buy new rears!

Anyone advocating using shit tyres because they don't drive fast is a totally Arrogant mongol

Do you really think you are in control of everything else that happens on the road? That kid who runs in front of you, that lorry who cuts you up on an island etc etc

It'll only sink in to you people when you suffer because of your arrogance, worse still if your family suffer

That's why you drive defensively and not like a knob.

Do you adjust your driving for various conditions? If so the same applies to tyres.
