Sierra steering bush...
Hi guys im after some info if anyone can help.
I need to replace the steering bush on my 3dr as mine had split and the replacement I bought were found to be very dangerous

I have been told numerous times that one from a Land Rover fits and is pretty much the same as the standard Ford one.
Does anyone know what Land Rover model, year or part numbers please?

Just to confirm, the trouble was with the cheap ebay ones and believe the ones from Burton Power were much better

As said the ones from burton are proper made poly ones and don't think people have had probs with them, I know jamesH had a landrover one not sure if he fitted it or not before selling up his cossie.
I was lucky I've got a good one on the car and a near new coupling spare for mine!!

I can also confirm landrover one is spot on, I used one on mine, only thing I did was after bolting it to my coupling I put a spot of weld on the nuts so no chance of coming undone, although easy to grind off if it ever needs doing again. I would trust one of these rather than a poly one, think I have seen solid alloy ones for sale but presume the rubber would be better.

Sorry but it's on the car and very difficult to take a pic of at moment, I basically ground the rivets to remove the rubber section from both couplings, then fitted the landrover rubber section to the cossie one and bolted it with 4 high tensile bolts, then I just put a blob of weld on each nut to be 100% sure they can't come undone, been like it for a few years now and had no issues on mot or in operation. Its easy to do as the landrover coupling I had was totally different to the cossie one but the rubber was identical.

No worries, I thought you had used the complete part and put a spot of weld on the two pinch bolts I didn't realise you had removed the bush completely, I might try and use the complete shaft as it looks to have better joints.

Update
Finally got round to fitting the bush today.
Basically I just drilled the heads off the rivets and used a punch and hammer to knock them through seems a waste to throw all the joints away but there is no way any of it will fit so in the bin it goes, lol.
The holes on the bush do not line up 100% but I put the bush in the vise and squashed it only a small amount and then the holes lined up so nut and bolted it and then turned 90 degrees and squashed again to do the other piece.
The finished piece...
Good as new and feels very tight

One thing that's good to do is use some TipEx or something to mark where the flexible coupling splines line up with splines on the steering rack. Saves you a lot of buggering around trying to get the steering coulum straight again at the end. Maybe take a pic of how it was before you started too!
Start with the steering wheel dead straight, and lock it in place if need be...not essential...
If you hate yourself (cos it's an annoying job), it's a Good idea to do the steering column bush at the same time if you can be fooked. Makes the car feel nice and tight again. You can buy new bushes for a few quid on EBay.
Was a horrible job to do...but bearing in mind you have the column apart anyway, is worth doing. Definitely get the workshop manual (PDF CDs available online) for this one as safety is obviously paramount ESPECIALLY where your steering is concerned!!!

I fitted a polly one in mine when I refurbished it. Can’t see any reason why someone would say it’s dangerous unless it wasn’t put together right. Has spacers the bolts go through to stop you over tightening it and damaging the polly. And 2 of the bolts are a special shape to stop the two half’s moving.
