Is there anyway to tax my car without the V5? urgent...
as above.
the car was sitting for 3 years.
Im fully insured, and it passed its MOT this morning.
Went into post office with my MOT cirtificate, new keeper slip (still waiting for my logbook to come through), and a letter from my inssurance company with my policy details on it but he said i needed to have my cirtificate of inssurance as its a legal document.
All my inssurence documents are online so i dont have a paper copy of it.
and i cant get tax online as i dont have my full V5.
from the DVLA website on obtaining tax in person at a post office or DVLA local branch;
"You will need:
What can I do?

- Registration Certificate or New Keeper Supplement
- a completed V10 'Vehicle licence application'
- insurance certificate or cover note – must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- valid MOT certificate - if the car or motorcycle is over three years old - must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- the payment for vehicle tax (not needed if your vehicle is exempt from paying vehicle tax)"
What can I do?

A lot of places will request the actual certificate/cover note and not a copy.
When buying cars some dealers said they needed the actual certificate and 1 or 2 said they knew the post office well enough that they could do it with a printed off copy (although in this case it had to be one that came direct from the insurance company and not via me).
So, unless you have an actual cover note or certificate you might be out of luck.
As above some insurance companies give you the option of printing them off.

Hence why im so annoyed as im paying for all of this and because im missing a specific piece of paper, I cant get my car on the road. Even though I have paper work to prove I'm insuered
P.s. Just spoke to inssurance on the phone;
I dont actually have electronic documents, and they have already sent me a Cover note? so i tell them ive not had it, and he says his colleage will phone me back in 5 minutes... that was an hour ago!!!!

Do it online????? Oh shoot you can't without the reference number on the reminder or V5, if i were you i'd call the DVLA and see if there's any way you can get the number over the phone.
The worst you will get done for would be failure to display a tax disc, and there's no way on earth youd ever get caught, if you tax it online it will be registered on the ANPR as being taxed anyway.

Its not having a inssurance cirtificate that is causing the headache's.
Inssurance say they have sent a cover note but I havent received it.
I've got another week to wait till my new logbook turns up at the earliest
do you think if i phoned the DVLA direct, I would be able to apply using the new keeper supplement? or have the days of decent customer service long gone?

No if you do it online, it electronically checks if you have insurance so you wont need the certificate at all or the Mot cert.
The only thing you will need will be either the V5 or the road tax reminder as it has a reference number on it, i'd call the DVLA now before they all go home for tea!

well phoned the DVLA but the entire system is automated, with a specific note that you cant use the service with just a new owner supplement
Went back into the post office and waited to see the guy I saw earlier, Appoligised for losing my cool before and asked what i could do. showed him what I had about the car and what the best course of action was.
He said he could do it for me with just a copy but it would need the details of the company im insured with etc etc. Good bloke.
Phoned the inssurance company at 5 and was told his supervisor would call me back within half an hour. still no phone call
FAO everyone, Premium Direct have the worst call center in the world!!!
