Fuel pump relay + wiring

Fuel pump relay + wiring
I went to replace my fuel pump relay yesterday, but guess what - the one Ford sold me (for £25! ) isn't the same.
I also found that some pirate has botched in some cable into the yellow and blue wire that comes off the fuel pump relay. So, two questions (as the Haynes comic wiring diagrams don't cover the Cosworth's engine loom):
1) Where does the blue/yellow wire go?
2) Is this Titanic relay any good for the fuel pump?
2b) Is the yellow relay the right one, given that the relay holder's black?
3) Why do I feel like smashing a previous owners' face in? WHY DON'T PEOPLE LEAVE THE ELECTRICS ALONE FFS!
It'll get rewired at some point anyway, but I'd like to know.
Empty relay holder, blue/yellow wire trailing with black tape around the bodge:
The existing fuel pump relay (yellow) and the 'new' fuel pump relay (purple).
Same relays, from the back:
The rats nest. Notice the black joined and unprotected cable (it was wrapped in tape). This is spliced into the blue/yellow wire, which is odd as it could've easily been rejoined.
Old Fuel pump relay part numbers:

According to the Ford wring diagram I have here for the 3 door it’s the following that applies;
RED goes to fuse 26 (should be hanging beside relay cluster)
BLACK/RED goes to pump supply (also goes to ISCV and amal valve)
BLUE/BLACK goes to Pin 28 of ECU
BLACK goes to ignition
But TBH I’ve found a lot of the colours sometimes don’t match what’s in the diagrams, I do have specific 2WD saph diagrams but they are not much better.
As for the relays, it doesn’t matter which relay it is you use, as long as it’s the same rating as the old one and it has the ability to plug into the holder and has the same number of contacts, lots of Fords use those yellow realys, I have lots out of a mondeo in my saph and they work ok. I think the one you are referring to is 30 or 40 Amp and 12volt.

The relay they sold you is most likely a changeover relay, having the extra contact(centre one) which will no doubt be numbered 87a, it's next one on outside numbered 87.
So long as the pin positions are the same, it will work, ford have had a habit of using changeover relays in place of SPST single pole single throw, ones.
Why are you changing it ?, why not just come round and get it re-wired, won't take long and peace of mind then, but not just yet as have SWINE FLU!!

I've just got over bird flu so I'll give you a wide berth for now.
The fuel pump doesn't prime when cold, and it can be an arse to start sometimes, so I guessed the fuel pump relay was sticking 'open'.
Will pop round after you've lost your germs!

The pin layout I am sure is the more common one, can't remember if that is type a or type b, but either way I have lots of either, a new relay is well under a fiver, that's for a Bosch or similar.
SWINE FLU don't get it, it's bloody bad though seem to vary a lot with different people, the worst part is getting your code number that you need to pick up the medicine, I'm on TAMIFLU, ibuprofen, paracetamol, but it doesn't last as long as other "std" type flu's, mine responded within 24 hrs to medicine, in that it stopped getting any worse.
I only had to take it due to other health probs, otherwise I would have fought it valiantly, no you're right I'd have been a wuss and taken the easy way!!
